What to know about fall turnover and how to prepare

With Winter weather finally arriving there are many things to take account for when fishing this time of year. The first thing is the change in what bass are foraging for. Most bass at this point are targeting slow moving baitfish and crawfish in some of the warmer parts of the country. Spoons are also coming back in fashion as they are the perfect winter time lure. Especially when ice fishing spoons are a key to catching any fish while ice fishing.
If there is no ice on your lakes that your best bet is a slow presentation smaller sized bait. Something like a drop shot or a very slowly retrieved Texas rig. Other things to worry about is the depth at which you are fishing. Fish will be staying close to the bottom in deep water. If the fish in your area are aggressive I recommend a deep diving crank bait in a gold or bright color.
Make sure you dress correctly for fishing because even if your just going for an hour we all know how that ends up. Water proof gloves are a great way to stay warm and protect against water. The tiniest amount of water can led to extreme frost bite and can led to a serve numbing pain.
