"During colder windier days I always go for a chatter bait or some sort of noise making bait. Brighter colors are also very popular right now as the "fire craw" color combination works best during colder days."

"If your fishing spot dies down during winter its okay. Certain bass will shut down early making it very frustrating to try and catch a fish. My advice is to try a different spot or use different lures that don't typically work during warmer times.

Lisa Driver, PA

"Matching the hatch is always important. That's why for fall its a must to use some sort of shad mimicking bait. Bass are chasing the last remaining schools before winter comes. "

Advice on Fall Fishing Lures

Bright Colors and Loud Noises
Explained by JJ Anderson

During fall bass fishing is at its best and its worst at the same time. Many big bass are trying to eat as much as they can before winter comes. These bass are in search of large meals that will help them store energy for the long winter. This means using larger baits will be easier to use as many bass are looking for bigger prey. Not only does size matter but the color selection is also very important. Higher contrasting colors makes the bass more interested in a lure. If fish aren't biting or some uninterested it is best to move to a new spot as the bass have mostly likely started to hibernate.
